Design

A focus on design in the MLK and Broadway-Fillmore commercial districts supports the community's transformation by enhancing the physical elements of the districts while capitalizing on the unique assets that set those business districts apart. Main Streets enhance their appeal to residents and visitors alike with attention to public space through the creation of pedestrian friendly streets, inclusion of public art in unexpected areas, visual merchandising, adaptive reuse of older and historic buildings, more efficiently-designed buildings, and much more.
 
The Fillmore Forward Design Committee is tasked with providing input and assistance with design issues and visual elements along the Fillmore corridor. The Committee consists of design and planning professionals, academics and interested local people. Areas of interest include facade improvements, streetscape elements, signage, banners, and assistance with grant projects.
 
Fillmore Forward's Design Committee oversees:
  • Design education for those involved in the revitalization process
  • Design assistance for property and business owners
  • Building improvements
  • Public improvements
  • Zoning and planning issues
 
Projects:
  • Community Gathering Space located at the corner of Broadway and Fillmore & East Ferry and Fillmore
  • MLK District and Broadway-Fillmore District banners
  • A public mural to be a "welcome" to the diverse culture and community of the Broadway-Fillmore District
